Our Mairi Elsie dress has been designed as a jewel of a dress, perfect for curling up in during the cold winter months. The dress is made from luxurious, ethical and sustainable Pure Wool from the famous English house Abraham Moon & Sons. Founded in 1837, Abraham Moon & Sons is recognized as one of the last remaining vertical woollen mills in Great Britain.
Made from fabric of exceptional quality and lined with a soft cotton veil, the Mairi Elsie dress reflects the glamour of yesteryear. Its Victorian collar, accented with covered buttons, can be worn in 3 different ways: entirely closed, partially open or fully open. The buttons are covered with the same wool as the box pleat.
It is not one but two courageous young women, who defied Victorian prejudice, who inspired the designer for this dress: Mairi Chisholm and Elsie Knocker. A Scottish and English nurse, respectively. Mairi and Elsie were the only women to live and work in the trenches on the Belgian front during the First World War where they nursed and comforted hundreds of men. They were nicknamed the “Madonna of Pervyse” and received numerous decorations for their acts of bravery.
Your dress is sewn by exceptional seamstresses with quality and durability in mind. Honouring our commitment to sustainability and ethically sourced materials, your dress is made using high-quality leftover fabrics from larger couture houses.

Our care advice
We highly recommend dry cleaning. This will allow you to keep your dress in good condition.
Consider eco dry cleaning: typical dry cleaning uses a large amount of water and chemicals that are harmful to the environment.
