The Dress

The Vandana dress is for sure one of the pieces that I designed and care for most. It is rooted in the Indian and Afghan culture that I admire so much, with a design combining the beauty of both traditional garments. The dress is mid-long, with a front yoke highlighting the bodice, right under the breast. The top is quilted with a beautiful herringbone pattern. Two braided cotton strings will help you to tighten the dress as you wish. A generous series of gathering at the front and the back makes the dress very light and breezy.

It is a tribute to one of the most remarkable women of our time: Vandana Shiva.
She’s an Indian physicist, social and environmental activist, and eco-feminist, born in the foothills of the Himalayas. She’s been called the “Gandhi of grain”, the “rock star” of the anti-GMO movement, “eco-warrior goddess”.but also «environmental hero”. She is one of the wisest bonds between humans and nature alive, on a mission to awaken our society to the crucial importance of preserving and celebrating biodiversity, in all its aspects. She has built a new movement called Navdanya, India’s biggest network of seed keepers and organic producers, for the conservation of indigenous seeds. She is also at the head of Diverse Women for Diversity , because as she says “Women have the potential to lead the transition to regenerate the Earth, its biodiversity, and our health and nutrition.”
An answer she gave to a journalist particularly resonates with our philosophy at Lena Klar:
* the journalist “what still gives you hope”?
* Vandana “hope is not a thing outside us, hope is a process of living. I cultivate hope in every thought and every action”.

This piece of exceptional quality will  travel throughout the years in peace, and so to be passed down to your daughters, nieces, sisters… For a new life!

The Vandana Dress is sewn by Claudia, our exceptional seamstresses, with quality and durability in mind. Honoring our commitment to sustainability and ethically sourced materials, all our garments are made using high-quality leftover fabrics from larger couture houses.

Care advice

2 options

1. Hand wash your dress in cold water. To discover our natural advice and tips to help you with the day-to-day maintenance of your garment, click here !

Your dress is quilted with padding, so it’s better not to iron the quilted part to keep it thick ad not to flatten the volume of it. Just let it dry on a hanger.

2. We also recommend dry cleaning. This will allow you to keep your dress in good condition.

Consider eco dry cleaning: typical dry cleaning uses a large amount of water and chemicals that are harmful to our environment.
